Scottish wrestler and ICW Champion Adrian “Lionheart” McCallum passes away

It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I have to write this but on June 19th, 2019, the official Insane Championship Wresting Twitter account announced that their world champion, Adrian “Lionheart” McCallum had passed away.

McCallum had been wresting on the British independent circuit for about 17 years and has left an impression on a huge number of wrestlers, fans and everyone he came into contact with. A few years ago he suffered a broken neck which he recieved when taking a Styles Clash wrong but came back and won championships.

The ICW Twitter account posted this at 8:10pm on June 19: “We are heartbroken to learn of the tragic death of ICW World Heavyweight Champion, Adrian ‘Lionheart’ McCallum. Adrian was a mainstay of ICW and British professional wrestling. Most importantly, he was our friend. His passing leaves a huge hole in the lives of those who knew him.” Adrian McCallum was only 36 years old.

Adrian’s final Twitter interactions were a Tweet he sent which read ““One day you will eat your last meal, You will smell your last flower, you will hug your friend for the last time. You might not know it’s the last time, that’s why you must do everything you love with passion” #Afterlife @rickygervais” and a tweet he ‘liked’ from a Twitter account called Depression Quotes: “Everyone thinks I have gotten better. I haven’t. I’ve just gotten better at hiding it.

Since the announcement many wrestlers and fans have been paying respects and sharing memories on social media.

With an endless stream of emotions from friends and fans alike, there was still the unfortunate reality that Arian’s parents will have to bury their child, and that’s not cheap. ICW stepped up and created a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for his funeral. The target was set at £6000 and is currently (Friday, June 21st, 2019, 1:34am) sitting at £11,018. It is wonderful that so many people would do what they can to help the family of this incredibly talented individual.

My condolences go to the family of Adrian, his friends and fans at this immensely difficult time. My heart goes out to you all. Goodbye Lionheart.
