The G1 tournament starts outside of Japan for the first time in history as NJPW heads to Dallas, Texas on July 6th. The opening night of the G1 Climax 29 in Dallas looks very intriguing now the matches have been announced, so let’s get into it.

Dates and matches announced

Night 1, July 6, 2019

Night 1 of the G1 Climax 29 will be headlined by a classic match that Japanese fans have seen a few times over the years and never fails to impress, Kazuchika Okada vs Hiroshi Tanahashi. This match is so big that I imagine people all over the United States rushing to buy tickets and makes travel arrangements. Also on this show will be Zack Sabre Jr. vs SANADA, EVIL vs Bad Luck Fale, Will Ospreay vs Lance Archer and Kota Ibushi vs KENTA.

Night 2, July 13, 2019

Back in Japan, B Block has it’s first night of block action, headlined by Jon Moxley vs Taichi. Now, I am very excited to see Moxley in the G1 but Taichi just doesn’t excite me. Hopefully Moxley runs through the mid-card musical act, Taichi, and picks up the quick win. The rest of the show consists of Tomohiro Ishii vs Jeff Cobb, Toru Yano vs Tetsuya Naito, Juice Robinson vs Shingo Takagi and Hirooki Goto vs Jay White. The match that really catches my eye on this card is Ishii vs Cobb, two hoss fighters there to put on a hoss match, should be great.

Night 3, July 14, 2019

Night 3 is headlined by Hiroshi Tanahashi facing off against KENTA for the very first time. KENTA is new to New Japan Pro Wresting and he has a plethora of new matches ups to keep us all entertained. Also on the show will be Kots Ibushi vs EVIL, Kazuchika Okada vs Zack Sabre Jr., Will Ospreay vs SANADA & Lance Archer vs Bad Luck Fale. All of these matches intrigue me and this show looks to be great all the way through.

Night 4, July 15, 2019

This show will be headlined by Intercontinental champion Tetsuya Naito taking on Suzuki-gun’s Taichi. The match I’m most looking forward to is Jeff Cobb vs Jon Moxley, that should be fantastic. Also on this show is Jay White vs Tomohiro Ishii, Juice Robinson vs Hirooki Goto and Toru Yano vs Shingo Takagi.

Night 5, July 18, 2019

Night 5 may be headlined by the most physically impressive matches in the whole tournament, Kota Ibushi vs Will Ospreay. Ospreay has just finished moving from England to Japan to dedicate himself to the company, and Kota has recently signed a lifetime deal. With both men being long-term NJPW talent, this could be a match we could get used to. Also on this show, Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Zack Sabre Jr., Kazuchika Okada vs Bad Luck Fale, Lance Archer vs KENTA then the clash between LIJ members and tag team partners, EVIL vs SANADA.

Night 6, July 19, 2019

Jon Moxley headlines this card against the Stone Pitbull Tomohiro Ishii in what is sure to be a blow away, hard hitting match. Also on this show; Tetsuya Naito vs Hirooki Goto, Jay White vs Toru Yano, Juice Robinson vs Jeff Cobb and Shingo vs Taichi.

Night 7, July 20, 2019

Will Ospreay got his first break in NJPW because of Okada. Okada put in a good word with the office after having a match with Ospreay in RPW and Will was taken on. Ever since then they have wanted to have the rematch, and it will happen here, in the G1. On July 7th Okada will face-off with the Aerial Assassin Will Ospreay in the main event. Other block matches are Kota Ibushi vs SANADA, Lance Archer vs Hiroshi Tanahashi, Zack Sabre Jr vs Bad Luck Fale and KENTA vs EVIL.

Night 8, July 24, 2019

Night 8 has a few interesting match ups. The main event is Tomohiro Ishii vs International champion Tetsuya Naito, Jon Moxley faces Shingo Takagi. Also on this card is; Jay White vs Jeff Cobb, Hirooki Goto vs Taichi and Juice Robinson vs Toru Yano.

Night 9, July 27, 2019

Night 9 is headlined by IWGP Heavyweight champion Kazuchika Okada facing off against KENTA. The rest of the card includes; EVIL vs Zack Sabre Jr., Will Ospreay vs Bad Luck Fale, Kota Ibushi vs Lance Archer and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs SANADA.

Night 10, July 28, 2019

The top three matches that interest me on this card are; Jon Moxley vs Tetsuya Naito, Tomohiro Ishii vs Juice Robinson and Shingo Takagi vs Jay White. Also, Jeff Cobb faces Taichi and Hirooki Goto faces Toru Yano.

Night 11, July 30, 2019

July 30th will see the 11th night of the G1 Climax 29. Night 11 is packed with A Block action headlined by KENTA vs SANADA. Also on this show is; Hiroshi Tanahashi vs EVIL, Kazuchika Okada vs Lance Archer, Kota Ibushi vs Bad Luck Fale & Will Ospreay vs Zack Sabre Jr.

Night 12, August 1, 2019

Night 12 comes on August 1st and is headlined by Jay White vs Taichi. Two matches really stand out to me, and that is Tomohiro Ishii vs Hirooki Goto & Jeff Cobb vs Shingo Takagi. The Ishii/Goto match should be hard hitting and smash mouth in every sense of the phrase. Cobb is still new in NJPW and having a great showing against Shingo will help him in the eyes if NJPW management and fans. Also on this show is; Juice Robinson vs Tetsuya Naito vs Toru Yano.

Night 13, August 3, 2019

Night 13 of the G1 Climax 29 heads to Osaka for A Block action. This show is headlined by Kazuchika Okada vs SANADA. Will Ospreay goes one-on-one with EVIL, Zack Sabre Jr will look to submit the big man, Lance Archer, KENTA will face Bad Luck Fale and Hiroshi Tanahashi faces the Golden Star Kota Ibushi.

Night 14, August 4, 2019

Night 14 of the extensive tournament is headlined by Tetsuya Naito and Los Ingobernables De Japon stablemate Shingo Takagi. Jeff Cobb will take on Hirooki Goto, Taichi faces Juice Robinson, Tomohiro Ishii faces his tag partner Toru Yano and Moxley faces Switchblade Jay White.

Night 15, August 7, 2019

As we near the end of the tournament, some will be fighting for survival in the tournament, others will be playing spoiler and a few will be trying to win the whole thing. Kota Ibushi faces Zack Sabre Jr., Hiroshi Tanahashi faces Bad Luck Fale, SANADA vs Lance Archer, Will Ospreay faces KENTA for the first time and in the main event, Kazuchika Okada vs EVIL.

Night 16, August 8, 2019

On the second to last B Block show, Juice faces Jay White, Hirooki Goto goes against Jon Moxley and maybe the most intriguing match up on this show, Jeff Cobb vs Tetsuya Naito. Taichi will face Toru Yano in the match to determine who definitely should not be in the tournament and in the main event, Tomohiro Ishii will go one-on-one with the Dragon Shingo Takagi.

Night 17, August 10, 2019

*NOTE: Jon Moxley will not be on the opening night in Dallas due to his contractual obligations to AEW.
