NJPW Update – March 14th, 2019

New Japan Pro Wrestling in London

In January, New Japan announced they would be holding a show, in London, on August 31st, 2019.

On March 12th, 2019, the pre-sale tickets became available to those who signed up for the email notification. After the first day of ticket sales, which was only to those who signed up, New Japan Pro Wrestling had sold just under 4,000 tickets according to the Wrestling Observer.

4,000 tickets is an impressive number considered they don’t even have a show on television in the UK. The Copper Box holds about 7,500 and this show will most likely sell out pretty soon and that is done through njpwworld subscribers, social media and word of mouth, which is crazy.

I imagine if NJPW got a TV deal in the UK, they would start touring more and would probably do really well based on these numbers.

Announced names for Royal Quest

The three initial names announced for the show was Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada and Tetsuya Naito. After the tickets went on general sale(March 14th, 2019) NJPW announced more names. The names announced along with the general sale tickets were; Zack Sabre Jr, Will Ospreay and referee Red Shoes Uno. Also, rumoured to be announced soon is Kota Ibushi.

NJPW have confirmed to me that there will be Meet and Greets in London but will not be announcing anything until after the G1 Supercard show at Madison Square Garden.

The biggest show in Ring of Honor history, and NJPW history in the U.S. is nearly upon us and with top matches from both promotions, title matches and inter-promotional matches, confirmed matches for this show on April 6th are;

  • IWGP Jr Here Championship Match – Triple Threat – Taiji Ishimori(C) vs Dragon Lee vs Bandido
  • IWGP Heavyweight Tag Championships vs ROH Tag Championships – Tanga Loa & Tama Tonga vs Winners of Villain Enterprises vs The Briscoes at ROH 17 Anniversary
  • ROH World Championship Match – Marty Scurll vs ROH World Champion
  • IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match – Jay White(C) vs New Japan Cup winner
