WWE Crown Jewel cancelled?

As reported earlier by The Wrestling Observer, the event scheduled to take place on November 2nd, 2018 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has been removed from the WWE Calender although no official comment has been made.

This has come off the heels of a horrible situation that led to the Saudi government being accused of ordering the torture and death of an American citizen who wrote for the Washington Post, named Jamal Khashoggi. When Jamal entered the Saudi embassy in Istanbul, Turkey to receive papers to marry his fiancée, who was waiting outside, he was apparently attacked and has not been seen since.

Many western companies were to attend a confirmed in Saudi Arabia but after the news of the Washington Post write possibly being killed, companies across the US and UK have pulled out, including The New York Times, Richard Branson’s Virin Space Programme and more.

The United States President, Donald Trump has finally cracked down, claiming Saudi Arabia could receive sanctions or worse. With the backing of WWE Hall of Famer and Current president, it seems WWE have taken the big step in backing out of this upcoming show.

The deal WWE has with Saudi Arabia is a ten year deal which could see the company accept anything from $500 Million or up to $1 Billion. With share holders and stock prices to think about, this may not be the easiest decision WWE has made but it certainly is one that they have to take seriously as pressure could come from investors and stock holders to pull out entirely.

As off right now, the event “Crown Jewel” has not officially been cancelled but it could just be a matter of time. WEE are set to be in Madrid on November 3rd, just before starting a UK tour. WWE, on their website, has removed all references to the Crown Jewel show taking place in Saudi Arabia.

*UPDATED* WWE has noted that the event should be on their schedule and they plan to go ahead with the show, as of today.
