Rey Mysterio set to wrestle at NJPW G1 Climax tournament finals

It was announced today by NJPW that Rey Mysterio will participate in the August 12th show in Budokan Hall.

It is likely that Rey’s opponent won’t be named until a lot closer to the time as that is often how New Japan operate when it comes to announcements.

The last time Rey was in a NJPW ring was Dominion and Mysterio made his debut for the company in a six man tag which his team lost when Jyushin Thunder Liger was pinned by Cody. The team were Liger, Rey Mysterio and Tanahashi vs Cody, Marty and Hangman Page. Later that night Cody would challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

It is possible that Rey faces off against Marty as Mysterio still didn’t get The Villain back for unmasking him in Long Beach. Originally Rey was going ta face Will Ospreay for the IWGP Jr Heavyweight Championship but time has past and Will lost the title to Hiromu, who has suffered a neck injury and it’s unclear his state at the moment so that championship match is probably ruled out.

Whoever Rey Mysterio faces on this show, it will be fun and this is news that will surly draw more eyes to the final of this tournament and NJPW as a whole, well played President Meij.
